The pressure bleeders (both my old one that used tire pressure, and my new, terrific one -- the one with the large tank and gauge that you mentioned) all caution about observing a pressure limit. I recall (my unit isn't handy right now, as it's in the garage) that it might be a mere 20 or 25 psi. So it might well be that you've blown out some MC seal.
