What are the symptoms of bad tie rods or ball joints? 200 1992

I've got a 1992 245 with about 133,000 miles on it. The vehicle runs great, but I've noticed that I get a shimmy up front when I'm going 45-50 miles per hour and I steer to the left or turn left. I'm not sure if it's a wheel balance issue with the front passenger tire (I just rotated tires from front to back) or if it could be a tie rod/ball joint problem. So what are the common driving symptoms of bad tie rods or ball joints? What things should I do to check the problem out?

Thanks,
