Cows standing in the road is a common sighting in the West. I've seen them in Wyoming also, crossing from the Tetons to the Black hills or tripping across the US seveal times. It happens all the time here in Texas on back country roads. It's kind of cool to take the car down to a stop and begin to see life as the cattle do, taking their time to wander across the road. They really don't care if your not on time or that your joyride was interrupted. Makes you consider things in a different way.
As far as the accident, that isn't my way of getting a steak dinner, would rather find it on the supermarket shelves. Too bad for the rancher.
Now as for bad accidents, one of the worst I've seen was three tomatoe trucks headed to market on a late friday afternoon near Sacremento. As they screamed by me doing 80 mph with the tomatoes rocking back and forth in the tall trailer beds, I though about how it could be quite a mess if they had an accident. A few minutes later the traffic stopped. I-80 was shut down for 6 hrs to clean up the mess. It made a smashing story in the San Francisco news that day.
