Misfire under high load/high RPM (REX/Regina) 900 1993

Subject is a '93 940, B230F/AW70L, REX/Regina EFI. Drives like a dream 95% of the time, until you need to hammer it. Getting on an entrance ramp, for example, you get to 4000-4500 RPM and suddenly she's buckin' like a bronco. Let off slightly, you get a shift and then repeat in the next gear. It sounds like misfiring. The tach needle follows the engine (i.e. does not drop to zero). Plugs should be good, new wires, fresh fuel filter, air filter is clean... does this sound like a flaky coil/powerstage unit? Or is my fuel pump the prime suspect (have not measured fuel pressure yet.)
