Oil preasure sender 200

I am in the process of retro fitting my b230F with a oil preasure guage. I installed the sender and hooked my idiot light wire to the "WX" terminal. It works. One thing I did NOT use was the 45 degree adapter. Contrary to what seems to be the standard procedure, I came straight out of the block. I found there was more room between the sender and the alternator if I came straight out than if I angled it forward. Distance from the exhaust manifold seems about the same either way. Is there a good reason why I should angle it forward and up rather than straight out? It sems to work better coming straight out.
