Water pump pulley stud Frustration 200 1996

Attempted a water pump job for the first time today.
Thanks to Brickboard and good advice from a friend, we got the pump in, though so far we weren't able to see if the seals are OK or not.

Problem: One of the four pump/fan pulley studs isn't right. Correct stud was replaced by prev. mechanic with one that's missing the non-threaded section. Somehow he got it to go together OK.

When I reassemble, the stud starts running in towards the pump instead of staying put on it's mount disk.

2 possible solutions - any comments on these? Other solutions?
1) Replace with proper stud. Requires trudging around pick-n-pull, and I don't have one in easy reach.
2) Use some kind of Thread-Lock to lock the stud in place. Think this will work? Stud is slightly chewed up from nut-removal using needle-nose vise-grips on stud, but the nut should thread down OK as long as the thread-lock holds.
