Car Fuel problems.... 700 1991

Higher current is caused by lower resistance. Provided the power source is unchanged which,in your case, is still 12 volts. The newer Bosch pumps probably aren't what they used to be as is the case with alot of things so I wouldn't spend too much time concerned about the pump current. The increase could be due to just different pump windings. The important thing is the pressure and correct regulation. Maybe try some higher octane gas and some injector cleaner. I believe your car has a Mitsubishi turbo with a compressor bypass valve. Check to see if that is working. Mine recently failed and the turbo would not work at all. Put some vacuum on it to see if the valve moves. Or move the valve manually and then clamp the vacuum hose or plug the connector. Release the valve and see if it stays open. If it closes the valve diaphram is bad. No replacement other than used. If yours is bad I do have a used one that I took off a newer 740 thinking it would fit my '89.
