142 Handbrake conversion 140-160

I'm interested in trying to convert the handbrake in the 142 from the driver's side (where it is almost impossible to use in autox etc) to one mounted on the tunnel. Don't want to go the hydraulic route & lose the rear split brakes etc ...

Was thinking that a 240 setup might be a good place to start - possibly some sort of hybrid system using the 240 lever connected to the 140 cables ....

Anyone on here ever done it & can offer some wisdom ?

TIA
