Well, that's good to know. I figured that if it hasn't caused any damage by now, it probably won't. I'm going to change it anyway though.

By the way, does anyone know of a similar forum for VW's?
My mother has a '85 Vanagon and the power steering rack makes a heck of a whining noise. I recently changed the fluid in it.
