Bad battery or charging problem? 140-160 1973

Does the amp light come on when you first turn the ignition on (but before you start the engine)? If so, and the amp light goes out after you start it, your problem is most likely the battery, and only the battery.

If the light never comes on, it could be your charging system, as well as the battery perhaps.

Blinkers will be slow with a weak battery for sure. But a good charging system should speed them back up once the car is running. Check voltage... should be right about 12v with car off. About 14-15 when running if it's charging. Check your battery connections too.

But 5 years is a LOT for a battery. Even if it's not the only problem, it's definitely due for a new one.
