Last Sat I was driving home in my '89 245 5-speed and was hit by a speeding pick-up truck, side-swipped and ran off the road into a tree, totaling the much loved sportwagon which I had savored for many years. At 280k miles, it was running like a new car. I had put most every modification you can get for it into the car. Never had an accident either in making 15 or so cross-USA rides in that car.
The good thing is that I walked away with minor bruises. The car did it's job protecting me. All of the 20 or so witnesses who saw the pick-up truck hit me and speed off at over 80 mph couldn't believe I walked away. The driver must have been drunk, but we'll never know, becasue fled from the scene and hasn't been caught(at least not yet).
The next good thing, if anything good has come out of it, is that the very next day I found and bought a superb condition '91 245 5-speed for less than the insurance company is paying me for the wrecked car. So I guess I have to count my blessings and go on to the next of my nine lives and thank God I can continue with my Volvo passions. After all, the best medicine for a broken Volvo heart, is getting another Volvo. lol
Everyone, enjoy your Volvo's safely. Pete
