Soaked drivers side carpet again. 200

Once again the carpet in my 1985 240 DL under the drivers feet is wet. Six or seven years ago, I had a body shop weld in a plate
in that area to replace the corroded floor panel. I was not successful in replacing/reinstalling a new hood release unit a couple of years after as far as sealing the hole in that area
where it attaches to the firewall so it isn'tbut there doesn't appear to be any water coming in there.
Where does the water come from and is there anything I can do or should I let it go and just plan on replacing it in a few more years?
