Propshaft UJ Checking 120-130 1968

Hi,

What's the procedure for checking if a Universal Joint is any good. Holding each side of the joint and twisting I can get no rotational play at all. However if I lift one side of the joint (90 degrees to the propshaft) and hold the otherside, I get a small amout of play. Effectivley I get end play in the spider bearings but no axial play. Which of these 'plays' is acceptable if any?Thanks.
