Thermostat Issues 900 1993

So a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my engine temp was straight up and down or, if you prefer, the needle was in the 12 o'clock position. Previously it had just hovered around the 10 o'clock position.

Thinking it was the T-stat and armed with the FAQ instuctions, I ordered the part from FCP Groton and replaced the old T-stat with a new one complete with o-ring. The old one had indeed failed and was indicated by a broken strap.

Problem solved, right?

Not quite unfortunately the temp gauge still moves to 12 o'clock within minutes of starting up. I checked the new T-Stat and it does not appear to have failed as the old one had. Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.
