91 245 shift lock problem...cant i just disbale it??? 200

hi

approaching 200k on the 91 245, stepping on the brake pedal now no longer releases the shift lock mechanism. instead of reaching down under the brushes to release the switch, cant i simply disable this somehow?

this happened after someone tried to give the car a jump (dead battery) with the cables connected to the wrong terminals. the power locks stopped working and the radio locked electronically. everything else still is fine, and so are the fuses. i did read the past posts about this and have some understanding of the way it all works together, but i still would just prefer to disable the shift lock system, so it will be more like my 1989!

thanks a lot for insight
soren
