fuel level sender? 700

Hi all!
Fuel gauge just reads all the way empty with LED on. I did the 68 ohm resistor test (as called for by FAQ), resistor between gray/white wire and black(ground), gauge jumped up to about maybe 1/8 instead of just on the red line as the chart on the FAQ says. Is that OK? Well, at least the gauge registered something. I take it that my gauge is good. Then, i disconnected the connectors (in the trunk) and did a continuity check between gray/white and black wires (tank side). No continuity. I also did a continuity check between the other two wires (pink and brown if I remember). I take it that these other two wires are for the in-tank pump. No continuity on them either. Did I do the check right? Please point me to the right direction if I didn't. I really can't trust myself (just yet) when it comes to electrical stuff. Thanks in advance fellas.
Denny
