Is this from a bad thermostat? Have to fix in the morning. 700 1989

Car (89 760t) was running fine - drove it all day.

Made a stop - car was off about 20 minutes - recranked - absolutely no power - struggled to get up to 20 mph. Stopped, turned off motor - after a few miles, opened hood - motor HOT - resevoir ok. The temp guage was stright up and down.

Let it set for a while, and after a spell loosened cap on resevoir a bit to check pressure - the coolant filled up to the top and started to come out. I reset it.

That is how I left it till I can get back to it in the morning. I am hoping this is a t-stat. Am I right? Any pointers would be appreciated. Oh, I read the FAQ's, and it did not address high pressure in the system that I could find.

Thanks for any help.
