Kick down cable 900 1994

I recently changed the speed gear box. This is a rebuild unit. After repair work the car is working Okay, but the kick down cable is not working. When i pull the cable I hear a noise but the cable does't pull itself back as it should. I beleive the sppring inside the gear box have got to be the problem.

How do I check the internal part of the gear box and know if the cable is fitted properly. If the spring have come lose how do I fix it. Is it Okay to run if the kick down system id not working . will it damage the gear box.
Please help.

Kind regards.

G.Karuna.
