745 Crutchfield headunit installation

OK, Bricksters, I need your help!

I just ordered a replacement Alpine headunit for my old 745--should get here in a couple of days. Anyone have any tips on doing this project? Crutchfield says I don't need DIN tools to get the old ones out, but I won't know what tool to use till the instructions get here. (I see slots that look like they'd fit a flat-blade screwdriver.) Also, I'm planning on crimping (instead of soldering)--bad idea?

I appreciate any advice!

John
