Need help diagnosing stall problem 700 1986

Been awhile since I've posted here. I've recently been having problems with my 744T stalling. The last time it stalled was Sunday on I-80 in Bloomsburg, PA, and it would not restart. I tried several times while waiting for AAA to send a tow (a good hour, probably) but it would not start. I had to rent a car to get back to NY, and of course the guy at the garage that has it says it starts up fine and he can't replicate the problem. He says he let it run for an hour, and no problems.

Here are some basic points:

It stalls in low gear at low speed as well as in 5th at highway speed. Sometimes it will restart right away, sometimes I have to let it sit for a few hours.

There does not seem to be a pattern to how long I've driven before it stalls. On Sunday, I started out in State College, PA, and stalled somewhere near Williamsport (app. 1.5 hour drive). It started up OK, then stalled the second and final time near Bloomsburg (probably about 30 to 45 minutes east of Willliamsport).

I replaced the fuel pump relay a week ago, but that does not seem to have made much difference.

Any insights that I could communicate to the mechanic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Joe
