'86 240 flywheel (ring gear) has two bad spots. Also..having trouble w/ starter bolt 200 1986

Local shop wants $340 + $40 (used ring gear) to do the work.

I wanted to have the starter inspected..so I'm taking it off...but I'm having a hard time taking off the upper bolt (the one holding the ATF dipstick upper hole). This is a tight quarters area....anyone got any "tricks" for getting this bolt off???

I don't know if I'm going to pay the $400 to have the old brick fixed or not....kinda sad...but she's got 261k miles and still runs strong. I dunno.
