ATF flush at 220K? 700 1990

Hello Wade,

Generally, this is only true if the transmission already slips a little. If the transmission is already on it's way out, changing the fluid will definitely kill it (as you read). If your's shifts well and doesn't show any signs of slippage, you should be okay to flush it. As for the hard shifting, it will almost definitely help that. Your transmission should have Dexron in it, not type F (you could use type F in it, but with the additional friction modifiers it will shift even harder with type F). Anyway, I'd go with Dexron and see what you get.

Good Luck,

Joe Schaefer - Volvo Master Technician
