Dome light and CL problem 200 1987

Hmmm. USA models have CL stock. Seems like a ton of work to install a system. Wow.

Did your dome light have the delayed cut-off? Driver's door open, light comes on. Close the door (all others closed) and light remains on some 15 to 20 seconds and then goes out. Look for three wires connected to the driver's door light switch.

The dome light system is a ground-switched system. Hot line goes from the fuse (#8 US) direct to the light. The light has three wires. One hot, one to a ground, and one that leads to all the door switches.

The switch on the dome light selects which ground to use - none, or doors, or constant. If any one of the wires from one of the doors gets grounded, that would create the problem you describe.

If all the door switches are pulled out and isolated from any ground, and the dome light is still on when the switch is in "door-control" position, then the grounding has to be in the wires somewhere.

The wires from the door switches connect together into a single wire that runs up inside the right side "A" pillar to the light. Chances are good that in the process of getting the CL wires through the door-to-pillar routing and up inside the right side of the dash, something got dislodged.

Good luck,

Bob

PS: I finally remembered to use something to hold the wires when I disconnect them from a door switch. They are short (read: cheaper) and a Royal Pain to fish out if they slip inside. I use a piece of string with a slip knot just behind the terminals.
