Idler arm changes: early to late 444-544

Aiden,
This is somewhat anecdotal evidence, but my PV444 Service Manual (original to my 1957 PV444L), shows a straight idler arm like you describe having on the car. I took mine off the car recently (also to rebush it) and I'm pretty sure it was original as the rest of the front end looked as if it'd never been touched.

The bent idler arm like the one you bought, shows up in the diagrams in my Glenn's "Volvo Repair and Tune up guide for PV444, PV544, 122s and P1800" which was published much later than the PV444 Service Manual (in 1965), so I would guess the bent idler arm is for the PV555 later steering setup.

I don't think the steering setup and thus parts are interchangeable between the early setup and the later one, only because when I bought all my front end parts, Olof was sure to give me the PV444 ones (not 544).

Belinda
