Flame Trap

I am planning on checking the flame trap on my 95 960 sedan. I dont know when the last time it was checked, and i know the hoses stand a good chance of breaking. Can i check the flame trap, and if it's clogged or if the hose breaks, will the car run (without causing damage). I dont want to wait a week to check it out when i get the parts, so i want to check it now.

Please inform me if it will affect driveability if i leave the flame trap disconected for a week.
