$700 for cat and muffler? 700 1989

Hi, my wife was unfortunate enough to have the pipe break between the cat and front muffler on a road trip. $70 was for a tow to the gargage that was within sight. $300 for cat. $143 for muffler. $42 for muffler loop clamp. Don't know the maker of this stuff but I doubt it's OEM. Part #'s on receipt say NAP***** and FAP*****. I assume Napa and Foriegn Auto Parts? How bad did my wife get ripped in and what can I do about it?

Ripped in CT.
