Dome light and CL problem 200 1987

USA models have CL stock. Seems like a ton of work to install a system.

Yup, all the goodies that you got standard were expensive options over here (glass headlights excluded). When my father bought the car new, he even had to have the dealer install power steering. Which is why this '87 has the older type Saginaw one-unit pump and tank, they probably just used what they had on the shelf.

Installing the CL was not so bad, apart from how I managed to mess up the wires for the dome light.

Saturday I traced the wires from the door switches as far as I could without major dissassembly. Everything seemed fine, except for this: There is a black, thick wire from the front right door switch that runs down to the floor and continues along the floor towards the rear. Well, this wire was definitely pinched under the galvanized piece of metal that separates the mats from the floorbords right next to the rocker panel. This piece of metal has a 90 deg bend, with the sharp end resting on the floor board. There is a cut-out for wires, but this wire had become dislodged and was pinched under the sharp edge. "A ha!" But sadly, after pulling it free the problem persisted.

Questions:
- If this wire is broken inside the insulation, will this cause the lamp to always stay on?
- Could the problem be related to the CL, like if the CL uses the light circuitry for ground if earthed through the same bolt?

Thanks,
Erling.
