Hello again all. Thanks again to all that have helped me in previous posts. I really appreciate the warm welcome to the forums and community. Thanks also to the Brickboard folks for hosting such a great forum - I look forward to contributing $$ and any help I might be able to offer in the future.
As for now, however, I have problems - first and foremost with my speedo. I am trying to "rebuild" the entire instrument panel. All the indicators appear to be in good shape (although I have not tested any of them). I have cleaned up the chrome very well and re-painted the inner metal sheet/bracket flat black. Pictures attached and linked here.
The chrome still has some minor rust pock-marks so I'll probably get it re-dipped. The speedo panel (MPH) itself looks pretty good and I think I'll keep it as is. The actual speedometer, however, has a cracked dial indicator. (See lower-left of image.) It should be very easy to fix/replace as I can probably find a few old clocks with a similar indicator. This task wouldn't be such a big deal if it weren't for the little chrome cap which holds the indicator to the dial (see lower-left of image). It seems I am unable to figure out a way to remove this cap/pin to be able to add a new dial indicator to it. Should I pull it straight off? Is there some other release? If I unscrew the two screws holding the dial face to the speedometer, that doesn't look like it will help much since the chrome cap is larger than the hole in the face - so it will do little good. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
