Ping Sound 120-130

I have a 1965 122 2 door. Every now and then I hear a single "Ping" sound when I am starting out from a standing start. It is definatly in the drive gear, not the engine. I also hear it when I take a slow corner in second gear and accellerate out of it. I recently replaced the rear two u-joints. I was planning to replace all three but I damaged one getting it on so I ran out of parts. (I don't recommend attempting to replace u-joints with out special tools). I also did not replace the large bearing on the drive shaft. So I suppose I could replace that front u-joint and bearing to see if the noise goes away. Does anybody have any ideas what that sound is? I hope it is not in the transmission.
Tom
