Sticky shifter button 200 1993

I have recently had a new shifter assembly put into my 240. The shift button is sticking when the car is put into park. It is easily unstuck, but I am wondering if there is a way to make its operation smoother (WD40? Silicone?).

The assembly had to be replaced because the brake switch failed; the car was stuck in park, and sadly, since this is my first automatic transmission, I was unaware of the shiftlock override and had to force the car out of park to move it. Learned my lesson the hard way (and $550 later).
