Front strut replacement Volvo 240 DL 1990 Model 200

Hi
I am replacing strut cartridges on front end . The replacement ones are from KYB GR-2.The new cartridge sits 2-3 mm higher than the original in the strut tube.I found that there is a ribber ring at the bottom of the strut tube . Should I try to take it out or let the cartridge sit higher .The bottom of new strut cartridge is different from the original one . May be thats why though it sits higher ,the DIA of the base matches and moreover their hights at same if place on level greound . I have already done one wheel and will do the second now . But just wanted to be sure if it will not make much difference .
The large nut which is fitted on the top of strut tube did fit as expected though few threads are visible ,It was the same case with the original one also
Regards
Gopehs
