Ball Joints Need advice 700

I’ll be replacing my ball joints this weekend. I have read all about it in the FAQ. Any tips on completing this job? Is it absolutely necessary to remove the control arm strut rod? The less I have to remove the better since this is my first time doing this type of work.

History: Had a post last week about alignment recommendations. http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1014675. I figure I might as well replace the ball joints before I do the alignment. All other parts look good.
