?!?! Swapped Carbs, still runs like snot... 120-130 1967

As you might recall, I tried out a pair of early HIF6 carbs on my 1967 B18 Wagon. I also got a single box air filter for the setup, and had disassembled and cleaned the carbs before installation. The HIFs were in excellent condition.

While I had the carbs off, I replaced a few engine gaskets, removed and resealed my gas tank, put in a new fuel pump and gaskets, replaced some fuel line, and adjusted my lifters.

With the HIF6s, the car started and idled ok, but it "sneezed" everytime I attempted to accelerate from a stop until it got *very* warm. Power was terrible, and it never seemed to get into a proper operating mode. After my last BB post on the topic (HIFs Diesiling), I got a response that there were probably no proper needles for running HIF6s on a B18 Volvo (HIF6s being stock on B20 140 volvos and never being mounted on the B18 engine).

So, I switched back to my HS6s, adjusted everything for reasonable idle. I re-synced the carbs using a unisyc tool (handy little device). got it to idle and adjusted the mixture to approximate where it was when I had the carbs installed previously.

HOWEVER....
I took the car for it's first multi-mile trip in a couple weeks. It was difficult to get the car started (even using the choke) It idled low for quite a while and only came up to a decent idle w/o choke when I reved it up quite a bit. I headed out and found that the car was "sneezing" at every stop sign and persisted (though not as bad) all the way to the highway. Even on the highway I felt that the power in the car was somewhat lower than it should have been. I could feel some hesitation when I attempted to accelerate for the whole 30 mile trip.

It seems that the same symptoms presist despite switched back to the original HS6s. What else could be causing me all this trouble? Could I have mis-adjusted the lifters? Would lifters cause this kind of trouble? Could my brand new un-used fuel pump be a culprit? Any other ideas??
