Can Fuel Pump Relay Be Bypassed ?? 200

Hello all. 1986 & 1987 240 DL. 3x times in last year I had to replace fuel pump relays. I have read here that it is sort of a common problem. It has been suggested to carry a spare which I do. Can the darn relay just be bypassed ? Or is it necessary ? If indeed it can be bypassed how does one do so ? Oh yeah best wishes for a happy halloween weekend to all especially those with Orange coloured Volvos.
