This Sucks (Vacuum Question) 700 1988

My 88 740 Turbo is finally running fairly smoothly, but I had to cheat.

There was a vacuum port (I assume) on the intake that had no hose attached to it. I had done everything short of cleaning the injectors (which probably need it badly) and it would idle roughly (and I mean ROUGH) at about 7-900 rpm. I put my finger over the hole for no good reason and idle was instantly smooth.

Being an engineer, I took some aluminum tape and covered the hole. It now runs nicely, but I'd really like to know what it SHOULD be attached to.

Any suggestions or diagrams are appreciated.

I will try to get a picture this evening to show the port I've "plugged".
