Another tire pressure question 200 1986

I just read the post and answers to "66Satellite" about the tire pressures.
I too have been thinking of increasing my tire pressure. I drive an '86 240 sedan with me as the sole passenger to work everyday (90 miles round trip) all highway miles. I have new Yokohama Avid Touring and run them at 35 psi. I drive at a constant 60 mph and get about 27-28 mpg. My question is, can I safely increase the pressure to get better mileage? If so, how much? Will that compromise safety response/manuvers. I know it will more than likely make it feel harsher on the road, but I could put up with that.
