Removal of intank fuel pump 945 wagon 1995

I am trying to remove my single fuel pump assembly from the tank in my 1995 945 wagon. I have read the 740/940 FAQ and seen the Volvo info sheet. The fuel pump assembly seems too long to remove through the access portal on the floor of the wagon cargo area. It does not freely rotate so that it can be directed up and out through the portal. I can get it about 2/3 of the way out by directing it into the region below the floor. Please advise.
