broken stud in the exhaust manifold...suggestions? 200 1984

hey guys, i just finished a clutch job on my brother's '84 245.. i was getting everything back together when i noticed that one of the studs holding the downpipe to the exhaust manifold was partially broken off. i can threat the bolt in about 1 turn and thats it. i went over to the local parts yard to see what i can find but of course all those are rusty and will probably break off too when i try. Has anyone tried drilling these out and retapping them? i'm sure this will be a major pain but we can't have that exhaust getting sucked in the car now can we. any advice on doing this welcome!
Thanks in advance
