245 Road Trip 200 1986

We just got back from a 1500 mile trip in the 86 245. The destination was Western Kentucky to look at a piece of retirement property. I saw two 245s broken down in Asheville, NC on the way up and no other Volvos on the road. I saw none in either the junk yards or on the road in Kentucky, and got some funny looks from the locals in the very country areas that we got into. We did see a 765 about an 88 vintage driving very slowly in the middle lane of I40 near Nashville on the way home (hope they survived!) and an old beater 84 model 245 near Knoxville, Tenn. with some very left wing stickers (I was polite and tooted the horn anyway).

It was not until we reached home (Charlotte, NC) that we saw some newer Volvos in number (and passed everyone of them!) The 245 used no oil for the entire trip and got around 27 mpg at 70 to 75 mph. We hauled a large load both ways, drove 1/2 mile into a piece of property that the real estate agent could not get his F150 Ford in, and the car performed like new.

Regards,
