88 240 GL Sedan Sputters/Lurches When Cold... 200 1988

The car acts like it's out of gas--or the fuel injecter is clogged--when I accelerate from a dead stop on starting the car for the first time in a day--or after several hours (i.e., when it's cold). But I'm in Northern CA, and it's not really cold at all, per se, FYI.

Anyway, I've been adding fuel injector cleanser at fill up time, and it seems to be helping a bit.

Typical scenario:
Start car in morning--ignition turns over and over for a minute, then ignites. On first accelertion, car jerks/sputters and the rpms go up and down accordingly. This goes on for about 20 minutes while traveling (when accelerating from stop signs). After that, all is well--high speed on the freeway--no acceleration problems. Get off fwy, all is ok (ostensibly cos the car is warm?).

Park car at work--return to car 9 hours later and repeat process above.

Any ideas? I did just get a lot of Smog work (e.g., cat converter, o2 sensor)stuff done to pass this state's strict requirements...

TIA,
JM
