I'm looking at a 1993 245 with 153k. It's in really nice shape. The interior is excellent, no dash cracks, it has a good AC, power windows and mirrors, cruise control. The tranny is an M47 with no funny noises in any gears. The clutch feels good. Body and paint are excellent, all lights are good, etc. No sign of any rust that I can find. It drives well and feels tight.
Concerns:
1. It doesn't pass the oil filler cap breather test so I'm thinking the PCV system is clogged, hopefully just the flame trap and/or hoses but not the breather box.
2. Coming up the owner's driveway, over small bumps in the gravel road, it has a knocking in the front suspension somewhere. Again, steering feels tight and I don't feel slop or knock when turning the wheel back and forth on conscrete.
3. Engine has a slight miss when listening to it in the driveway with the hood up. It doesn't shake the car or shake the gear shifter all over the place. But the engine does shake a little bit and when I hold the throttle to about 1500 rpm's, I can feel and see the miss. When driving, it feels very smooth through all the gears.
I'm going back today to test the comression just to make sure it's even. I would want that little miss to be related to a compression problem.
The car is one of the best I've seen in an area with lots of 240's. Blue Book is about $4200. The owner wants $4400. (He loves Volvos and has two nice 544's and an 1800 he keeps in a big garage. He doesn't work on them though, just likes to have a few around. He takes good care of them, that's for sure.)
Any thoughts on any of this?? Anything I should be aware of on a 1993?
