Best built body/chassis in a 240 ever?

I would like to buy a 240 sedan, and am curious about which year 240 has a reputation for having the solidest, rattle-free, heaviest duty body. I have heard that the early 80s 240s had tank like bodies, while the early 90 bodies were flimsier. Can this actually be the case. I always thought Volvo kept making the 240 better and better with each year, but maybe they let the body quality slip in later years? I know the older bodies probably have poorer rust protection, but I am willing to wait to find a cream puff with no rust. Have any forum members had several different 240s (early and late) and would care to comment?
