damaged alternator fins 700

swapped out the Alternators regulator brush assembly this morning on my 760 v6.Good news is that the alternator is charging perfectly, the bad is that Iam now missing quite a few alternator fins.
I did the job with alternator in situ since getting the alternator off the car completely, meant stripping the transmission cooler pipes.
I lost a nut, the m8 that bolts the alternators adjustment bracket on, couldnt find it so I used another one.
Starting the car revealed where it had gone to,by taking off quite a few cooler fins. The little blighter had lodged between them.
I had to use the car to get to work so I left it.
Question should I consider getting this sorted to be urgent,or is the amount of imbalance and reduced cooling not to great, until I can source another one?
