Acetone For Better Mileage 700

A recent column in Auto Week referred to a person in Minnesota who adds 2-4 oz. of pure acetone to his gasoline and claims a substantial improvement in mileage. The article by this person claims that acetone reduces the surface tension of the gasoline, thus letting it burn more completely.

Has anyone heard of this and/or tried it? I have no intention of doing so unless and until I get a lot more evidence that it a) works and b) won't harm my engine.

Here's the link: http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/

Thanks for any feedback.
