steering rack repair 200 1986

I will be replaceing my steering rack belows which is shot...I was wondering how to disconnect the tierod end from the wheel side...(aka the vertical mount) do I simply remove the nut and nudge it with a hammer? will the neccessitate a seperator? I have done this on old detroit iron with a "pickle fork" but it destroyed the rubber boots and was a laborious task. Additionally...I have been told that with ZF racks that removal of the tierod end from the shaft is not necessary...It looks to me as though it may be though....i guess it depends on how elastic the new boot is...if i do need to remove the end...can I paint a stripe accross the tierod end and the shaft to aid in the exact replacement (just lign up the marks exactly) as to preserve front end alignment? I really don't wanna drop $50 to have an alignment after replaceing an $8 part if I can at all help it. Any advice??? sooner or later this old girl will feel like a proper ride...I hope.
