'93 240 Con Rod Side Clearance? 200 1993

I just dropped my oil pan to redo the oil delivery tube seals on my '93 240. I found the side clearances on both sides of the big ends of the connecting rods to be HUGE. I can move the big end of the rod back and forth 60 thousanths (.060) and the sides of the rods are still a sixteenth of an inch from touching the crank thrust surfaces. There is more to this than just some wear and either the wrong rods are in that motor or else that is the way it is supposed to be. I've never seen any thing like it. Is this the way the B230 in a '93 was designed??? I bought the car used, so I have no idea of what has been done to it.
