HELP - No Start - Can a RUBE test the ignition module? 700 1989

sound similar to my 88 740 turbo, it started most times, but at the worst times i i found myself under the hood tapping the distributor coil and crankshaft sensor wiring...one day it just refused to start(cranked but no start) so it was time to fix it...first i checked for a spark from each plug ..then i thought its gotta be a fuel problem and found the main pump not working ...but as i was about to start pulling it out i decided to check it was getting voltage, it wasnt to a gave it 12 volts and it buzzed..but the car still didnt start, then i remembered a mechanic sugested it may be a number of things including a ignition relay under the bonnet...the relay was working but the wiring was falling apart
