fuel leak, parts question. 140-160 1974

I have yet to purchase a new repair book for the 74' 142GL, I have a fuel leak and am confused about parts. There is a horizonatlly mounted cylinder, which I assume is a fuel pump, under the squat, vertically mounted item i know to be a fuel pump. The horizontally mounted ? is leaking fuel from the top where there is a rubber cap of some type, I have hesitated to remove it before I replace the part. While looking at IPD I see that it could be either an inexpensive fix or a very expensive fix, based on which is the item in question! Help!
