Third brake light 200

The third brake light on my 240 wagon hardly ever works. The rear wiper works most of the time, but not always. I have read enough old posts to know that the wires in the hinges are cracked and that it may not be a real easy fix, especially for a novice like me. I had the idea come to me that I could solder the wires between the cracks in them and establish a better connection, presumably fixing the problem. I worry though that the solder will create one big connection (if it runs together) and every time I hit the brake pedal the third light and wiper and anything else in that wire bundle will come on, or worse, burn up/out. Should I do the soldering or not? Thanks a million for any help! P.S. whoever "ipdvolvo245" is, that orange car you were selling is /was HOT!
