Wiper problem 1996 960 900

Over the years the wiper arms on my 960 continually loosened up. I would retighten them and they would be OK for a few more months and then I'd have to tighten them again. Well the splined stud where the arm attaches has worn away and the wipers are very loose.I dont see any grooves in the arm assembly either. Over the weekend I put a lock washer on the studs and it seems to be holding the arm a bit better right now. Can the 2 splined studs be replaced on the wiper linkage or does the whole linkage have to be replaced? Is this a very involved procedure?
